What We Do

Welcome to Wessington Parish Council – your local council, working at the heart of the community.

As the first tier of local government, the Parish Council plays an important role in representing the interests of the people who live and work in Wessington. We are here to support the village, protect its character, and help shape its future.

Our Responsibilities

The Parish Council looks after a wide range of local matters, including:

  • Maintaining Village Spaces
We help to care for public areas such as the village green, benches and local footpaths. We also liaise with the district and county councils to report issues like potholes, overgrown hedges, or broken streetlights.
  • Planning and Development
While we don’t make final decisions on planning applications, we are consulted on all local planning matters. We listen to residents’ views and provide feedback to North East Derbyshire District Council.
  • Community Projects and Events
From supporting local events to small improvement projects, we actively promote a sense of community and help make Wessington a great place to live.
  • Supporting Local Groups
We offer small grants and practical support to local community organisations, charities, and events that benefit residents.
  • Representing the Community
We act as a voice for Wessington, raising concerns and working with other councils and bodies to ensure local needs are met.
