Wessington's Footpaths
Wessington is surrounded by beautiful countryside, and our network of public footpaths is one of the best ways to explore it. Whether you're walking the dog, heading out for some fresh air, or enjoying a weekend ramble, there’s a path for everyone.
Explore Our Village on Foot
Wessington has a range of well-loved footpaths that take you through open fields, along old lanes, and past stunning views of the surrounding Derbyshire landscape. Many of these paths connect with wider walking routes in the area, making the village a great starting point for local walks.
You’ll often spot walkers heading towards places like Crich, South Wingfield, or Ogston Reservoir – all accessible from the network of paths that pass through or near the village.
Rights of Way and Responsibilities
All public footpaths are rights of way and should remain open and accessible for everyone to enjoy. Landowners are responsible for keeping paths clear and safe, and walkers are asked to respect the countryside by:
- Following marked paths
- Keeping dogs under control
- Closing gates behind them
- Leaving no litter
If you come across a blocked path, damaged stile, or missing signpost, please let us know so we can report it to the appropriate authority.
How the Parish Council Helps
While Derbyshire County Council is responsible for the maintenance and legal status of public rights of way, Wessington Parish Council works closely with them to keep local footpaths safe, accessible, and well-signposted and we also help report issues raised by residents.
