The Village Green – The Heart of Wessington

At the centre of our village lies one of Wessington’s most treasured features – the Village Green. It's more than just open space; it’s a place for community, relaxation, and tradition.

A Space for Everyone

The Village Green is a peaceful and attractive open area, perfect for enjoying a quiet moment, letting children play safely, or meeting with friends. It's well-used by walkers, families, and those simply passing through to enjoy the view and fresh air.

In summer, you’ll often see picnics, dog walkers, and casual games on the grass, while in the colder months, the Green still offers a scenic spot to admire the changing seasons.

A Hub for Community Life

Throughout the year, the Village Green plays host to local events and gatherings – from seasonal celebrations to charity stalls and small village get-togethers. It’s a place that brings people together and helps keep our community spirit strong.

If you're planning a small community event that you'd like to host on the Green, please contact the Parish Council for guidance and permission.

Looking After Our Green

Wessington Parish Council owns and maintains the Village Green on behalf of local residents. We work to keep it clean, safe, and attractive all year round, with regular grass cutting, maintenance of benches and bins, and care for the surrounding trees and hedges.

We also rely on everyone to help us care for the space. Please:

  • Keep dogs under control and clean up after them
  • Avoid driving or parking on the Green
  • Take any litter home or use the nearby bins
  • Be respectful of neighbours and other visitors

Get Involved

If you have ideas to improve the Green, or you’d like to volunteer to help with its upkeep, we’d love to hear from you. This space belongs to the whole village – and together, we can keep it beautiful for generations to come.
